Spotlight On: Twisted Pixels

Influenced by a diverse mixture of gaming, sci fi favourites and the greats of art we talk everything design with Marc Bingham, the face behind popular wall mural range Twisted Pixels.

Artistic Beginnings

Ever since he can remember, Marc has loved creating art in his now signature style. During early childhood he would often illustrate characters from the big screen, copying images from film sleeves and game packages. Guided by his naturally artistic Mother, he developed this skill as he grew but it wasn’t until 3 years after university that he decided to pursue his talent as a career. Now, Marc takes the interpretation styles that he first fell in love with as a child and uses them to create art based on interpretations of a diverse range of popular culture and life experiences.

“My artwork I think, shows clearly how my inspirations have shaped the design process. (I’m influenced by Sci-fi, gaming and films as well as some of the amazing places I've visited around Southeast Asia. I’m a huge gamer/film addict and it shows,”

The Twisted Pixels Range

“I see Twisted Pixels murals being used in man caves, offices and shops mainly as they have quite a strong impact when seen and I would hope people would want to look twice at them and get inspired themselves.”

The Twisted Pixels range is a bold, colourful and artistic collection that would be suitable for anyone who loves art, sci fi, travel, design or popular culture. The designs begin their life as Marc’s illustrations, drawn using clean lines in pen and pencil, which are then recreated using graphic design software Photoshop or Illustrator.

“I have to say my favourite Twisted Pixels mural is Dystopia.  I was heavily inspired by Bladerunner for that piece and it took me so long to finish.  All my own work is done in my spare time so finding the time to draw is hard but this piece will always be in my memory for being the most difficult to produce. For the sake of wall murals, however I would have to go with with my Cubes.  Something about it just relaxes me.  Perhaps it’s because it took a marginal fraction of the time compared to Dystopia!”

Artistic Influences

In the world of classic art Marc takes influence from his favourite artists Salvador Dali and Giorgio De Chirico. After a lot of deliberation and not wanting to choose just one from Marc professed that his favourite piece of art ever is The Persistence of Memory - Dali.

New collection

Launched in 2012, the Twisted Pixels collection has always grown with Marc, who is constantly developing his style based on his tastes and experiences. The newest additions to the collection are abstract pieces of art that focus on bringing colour and patterns to the home.

“Lately I have been taking inspiration from colour combinations to create abstract and textured, geometric patterns… The idea is to use these skills in more detailed illustrations in the future to include landscapes and street scenes from places I have travelled, but with a little twist -  making them quite unique and obscure.  I look forward to sharing them soon.”
